Further to my comments on 23 July I have now received my replacement. Fortunately it is around 40% improvement on the microphone sensitivity. If only Panasonic could have added an audio editing facility in their software. I recorded a short AVCHD clip to DVD and play it on Bluray ,picture good but volume had to be cranked up to 60%. Still it's quite a good compact.

Bought this camera from Amazon £188. Mainly as point and shoot use. Stills are fine, happy with the zoom. Video in both modes good BUT sound capture is, on this unit, useless. For example TV around 10ft away measured db levels 45-55 db (about 36% on tv volume scale) the camera level so low it's inaudible.Ran it through Audacity to increase volume but the blips of sound which I believe are probably caused by the AF operating mean that every sound track would have to be modified. Contacted Panasonic!!! who told me to turn up the volume, I pointed out that this was purely the speaker volume and would not affect the recording levels. They then told me the camera was fine. I've returned it to Amazon for replacement to see if I was just unlucky, if not then this unit should not receive above 6 marks on the 10 scale. By the way Amazons replacement service is really superb.

Great camara. but why-why-WHY has the thing an on-off button that can switch the thing on when you put it in a camara bag. Turned a fantastic device into an unreliable one.

Hi. I couldn't find any mention of shutter lag. Could anyone tell me if it's a problem. i.e. is it noticeable? I guess that if it was, Cliff would have mentioned it.

@ici.chacal. yes its has. i usually set the shutter speed to 1/2 or 1 and the iso at 400 or 800 while mounted to a tripod. the pics looks bright enough.

Does this camera have a low light mode/slow shutter speed setting, such that I can mount it on a tripod and take pictures in very low light..?

After currys said they could not find a fault with my tz7 Panasonic authorised repairer I sent the camera to has emailed me to say that they have replaced the lens assembly! Still waiting for it to arrive so I can try so test shots and see if the images have improved. Will keep you informed. I would recommend that you don't buy from currys as their customer service is disgusting!

I have the same problem as Dan 24th November I am stuck with a very noisy zoom which is not accepible the shop I bought it from says it is normal it has been back to Panasonic's repairer and it came back just the same. I sent a vidio of the noise when it is in video mode to Panasonic saying if this is normal I want my money back but have had no reply. It is a very good camera I am still using it mostly for video I find it very handy and the quality is very good for such a little camera but it looks like I will have to go to the small claims court to get a replacement or money back which is a shame..
