I like the idea of the mobile streaming, what I want to see providers moving towards is Dlna support between boxes. The new bt multi room box seems good but it seems a huge flaw that recordings from the main box can’t be streamed to the second box in the bedroom, same with sky multi room.

And another device that does not provide an App for Windows phones. So I won’t bother buying it. It’s a shame that Tech Radar never seems to mention this aspect in any of its reviews.

Can I have something clarified please. Are you saying this EE TV box can buffer (record) six HD channels for 24 hours each? If so that would need a lot more than 1tb of local storage.

It strikes me Youview is this boxes closest competitor. A box released with similar ambitions. The difference being Youview integrates (very well) with all the major catch-up TV services and EE TV allows you to rewind six channels back 24 hours.

Which sounds mighty impressive but then so is youview’s ability to seamlessly link in with catch-up TV, something it doesn’t look like this box can do. Not only can you also go back in time (instead linking in with iPlayer etc…) but Search integrates all the catch up TV services you, making it easy to find something from the same search.

Youview also already has Netflix (again Youview itself doesn’t create it’s own content relying on others) and isn’t reliant on a particular broadband supplier. It’s also £200 or free as part of Talktalk/BT.

EE TV’s ability to stream the buffer to mobiles or tablets sounds impressive, something youview can’t natively do (talktalk are trialling it on their youview boxes).

That functionality strikes me as being more useful for a family. I’m the only person using my TV so would naturally gravitate to that. It’s not like you can stream when outside the house, even over wifi.

I’m struggling to say which service overall is better.

It’s odd Android struggles to stream HD when Android flagship phones are routinely more powerful than iPhones.

For the avoidance of doubt,this equipment is rented and at the end of the contract, unless you cont inue t pay. When payments cease the box will be locked, you will then have to return it or pay for it.
