I am on my 3rd Sony camera of this model in 10 years. I shoot 100’s of vehicle photos daily to post online for a Vehicle dealerships websites. I work this little camera hard shooting outside and inside close-ups in VGA mode, but sometimes in high resolution mode for car shows and portraits which are excellent quality . I can shoot a few hundred pictures on a single battery charge, then I remove the battery for recharge & memory card to download to my PC for editing and Website posting. Sometimes, I go out to shoot photos, without realizing that the memory card is still in my office. Not to worry. This camera model has internal memory which allows me to shoot without a memory card if i use the charging cord with USB to copy photos to my PC. Afterwards the photos on the camera must be deleted by the camera. It’s lightweight, and the Zeiss lens makes the photos crisp and clear. I specifically chose this camera for its Zeiss lens. It makes a big difference. My only issues with this camera, are my inability to force the flash to fire inside vehicles in certain shots, but I have learned how to get the flash active in most needed shots by where I focus my shots. The other thing is the Flash memory card which has caused me to retire 3 cameras when the card no longer slides easily into it’s slot. I would be very careful when reinserting the memory card to prevent damage, but camera can be charged and downloaded without removing battery or flash card if you use the USB cord.
It’s a great little camera that I would highly recommend for most general applications.

Update March 9, 2019.This camera is a white elephant since 4 months ago. very sad. my last sony lasted for years and was my best companion device everywhere i travelled around the world. I even get comments like “cool, someone with a real camera!”. This lousy replacement is so bad i ended up like everyone else using my iphone instead. Disappointed,.Original review:Purchased this to replace my Sony DSCWX9 which i loved until it is acting up after many years (plastic battery lock fails which i held up with a piece of tape) and it is not restarting properly upon pressing start button.I want another Sony. I had had two previous DSC generations with Carl ZEISS lens and i like to stick with it. After researching and reading the reviews, I thought Sony DSCW830 would be good replacement but NO.1. Picture quality not good – the colors does not come close to the true colors that my old sony takes. The old sony takes sunsets for example, showing vibrancy in the huesI take many photos for real estate properties and compare with my old sony, this one pales in comparison. it does not capture good ANGLES like the old one does. I took photos of the same rooms from same position, the DSCW830 cannot capture as much and as wide.2. Smaller display LCD screen. I knew that before buying from the specs but usually when they change a newer model, it is an upgrade. in this case, they reduce screen size for what? save cost of manufacture???The only positive thing i like is that the video recording is quick and good. And, it is lighter and smaller so fits in my pocket without much weight. but these do not compensate for poor quality photos.I do not recommend this camera. wish i can return it for a better one.

I honestly am considering returning this camera if I still can… I loved my Sony Cybershot cameras in the past which is why I purchased this and I assumed this one would yield *relatively decent* pictures. I wasn’t naively hoping for super crisp, professional shots considering the price, but I am very disappointed with the quality of the pictures this camera takes…. even with a flash, the pictures just aren’t any good. The speed of the shutter is super slow so if you’re trying to take even slightly low light photos without a flash, they will be, with no doubt, super blurry and grainy… and with a flash, the picture is washed out and everyone has red pupilsz The camera is lightweight, which is nice but I honestly don’t even bother bringing it with me places because the photos it takes aren’t worth the time or energy…. I was hoping for a light weight, quality point and shoot to use when I don’t want to carry around my SLR… and to replace using my iPhone all the time. No such luck with this lil guy, unfortunately… Perhaps I’ve lost my touch with using these little cameras, but I truly feel this products isn’t worth the money, especially for someone without any background in photography, which is who this ideally would be perfect for… in a perfect world.. anyway, don’t bother. And I’ll just add, writing this review makes me want to see if I can return it even more now.

This is by far the worse experience I have ever had with a camera, and I didn’t even get to use it.It come with an internal Sony’s memory card to SD card mechanism, but that mechanism prevents the SD card to sit correctly so the card won’t read as available.it will remain as “Insert Memory Card”. Once you push down with your finger it registers the card, let go and it goes back to unreadable.Try to close the lid and you may succeed with a bulge showing and the card still won’t register.Completely ruined my vacation… almost. The charger, uses a non standard USB to charge, is the same as a FujiFilm camera I have that I had lost the charger cable to, so I’ll be able to charge the FujiFilm and use it. after I comeback from vacation, I will return this POS.All headaches could have been avoided with adapter cards, instead of internal mechanisms.

PO’D…DOES NOT COME WITH A/C WALL ADAPTER! PC CHARGING ONLY!.. So I bought this camera for a special event TOMORROW, Jan 25th, 2019. It arrives, looks OK, BUT, where is the AC ADAPTER it says and shows comes with it? Missing item? YES, but it’s MORE than just that. The little square box, which has 2 inputs, 1 for the USB connection(other part of the USB, a micro USB, connects to the camera itself to CHARGE IT, WHEN the AC Wall adapter is plugged in) …and the other “2-port” connection, the “POWER CORD(Mains lead) which IS NOT Included in the US/Canada/China VERSION of this camera) Look at the Instruction manual, 2nd page, and it shows For Customers in the USA/Canada/China, a square box, that has an AC Adapter that pulls out from the side so you can plug it in and charge it. NOPE! NOT WITH THIS CAMERA!…I was sent this yesterday, spent 30 minutes on the phone being apologized too. The Rep said he’d send out another camera, and I am too take out the AC Adapter from that camera, and return the rest…I said PLEASE MAKE SURE it has the AC ADAPTER, because if I get this again, and there’s no AC adapterfor me to plug in, I’m gonna be really PO’d….After being put on hold, I’m told, YES IT DOES, and we’ll overnight it for FREE!…OK, TY!!…Well it just came, and it’s the same damn thing, NO AC ADAPTER to plug into the wall…Now, you CAN charge it via the USB using your PC & supplied USB Cable. Now for some, that is perfectly A-OK….But, for myself, and/or others who may not own a PC, or only have an older PC with a lot less USB Ports too access, it’s not OK!…Now I won’t do that ever again because in the past I did that with another small item that said I can charge it via my PC and supplied USB Cable and it F’d up my PC within a few minutes, so never again. I fought for months with those companies to get the money to fix my PC, and finally did! So again, this HAS NO AC OUTLET w/ “PRONGS (if you will) to plug into the wall…IF you wanna charge this via your PC, and that is OK with you, godspeed….It’s Not hard listing the ACTUAL CONTENTS, how it charges etc…IF this ad said, CHARGING THE BATTERY VIA THE USB & YOUR PC ONLY, IN THE US/CANADA/CHINA…OK, not a problem then I look for a different camera….So i blame Amazon, and Sony for this BS and utter nightmare…Just look at the image in the Instruction manual! I did that before I bought it, and I also read other customers questions and replies, and YES it comes with a charger and AC ADAPTER…..While I guess, technically true, if the camera’s INSTRUCTION MANUAL SHOWS THE AC ADAPTER THAT PLUGS INTO THE WALL, THERE BETTER BE A DAMN AC ADAPTER THAT PLUGS INTO THE GODDARN WALL!

I found the controls to be much the same as with my older digital camera. That helped me to learn what I could do with this device. I hardly need more than 5 megapixels, or the digital zoom. The optics are good. I can modify the exposure a bit as I did with my older camera. The rechargeable battery I will probably find an improvement as the older camera ate AA batteries (notoriously short battery life). Good buy for those wanting the spontaneity of the smartphone camera, and the better focus that a dedicated camera will have. Sample picture included.

Very disappointing. I purchased this thinking it would be better than my iPhone SE for scanning large paper documents (construction drawings). Wrong. The camera does have a 20 megapixel sensor, but apparently the resolving power of the lens is only able to produce ~8 megapixel images. Yes, the files are in fact 20 megapixels, but they are so blurry that what you really have is an 8 megapixel image. I tried every setting, lighting, tripod, time delay, etc. Nothing works, and in fact my iPhone still took a better image, in-hand, than the camera on a tripod.

The battery required is a NP-BN. The old batteries I used in the past were NP-BN1. Those batteries do not work with this camera, however, they fit.. The polarity on the battery appears to be different on the NP-BN, than the NP-BN1; I guess Sony wants to sell more batteries.Okay, I can buy batteries, I just can not find them for less than $40, Yes, USA dollars. What does this camera cost? Yeah, right. Looks like I am sending it back.Anyone have any suggestions on where to get batteries for a reasonable price? That is NP-BN.By the way, it does not come with an external charger; you plug a USB Cable into a supplied wall power supply (5V DC) and plug that into the camera to charge the battery. Seriously cheap. I have an external charger for the NP-BN1 batteries, it wont work with the NP-BN batteries neither..The camera so far does not look too bad, it is small in size, does not fit my hands well, okay for the wife. It is light. No case either. No surprise there.

This camera is not only small and EZ to carry in your pocket. It takes HUGE pics if you want/need that. Of course you can change the size to fit your needs/memory. Granted it does not come with a memory card, which is pretty standard. Very worthy cam though, and again Open Box is not anything to be afraid of. I bought the OB via online because there were NONE available for over 150 miles radius. I do however have a BB close by, IF the item came damaged OR unsatisfactory I would have just returned it to my local store. Yet it came IN the orig. box/instruction/power cable/strap. Perfect! Thanks!
