Comment:

The Sony Alpha 6100 is a mirrorless digital camera with the ability to change lenses. It’s very compact, much smaller than typical DSLR’s, more like the size of rangefinders such as Canon PowerShots or Leicas. The mirror on SLRs shows you the through-the-lens view, flips up to allow light to fall on the sensors (or film in past days.) No mirror means quieter operation and less vibration (nothing moving.) By the way, there are some sounds with this camera so though it’s quieter than the snap of a DSLR and way quieter than the old film SLRs, it still makes some noise (for those of you who want stealth.)This camera has an impressively bright viewfinder. So if you are looking for a camera that improves your ability to see what is in the lens, it’s something to seriously consider. There is also a back display and you can opt to use your smartphone via image app. (Not a very good app, though.) The back display folds up and I found that a bit clunky but it preserves the thin format of the camera. There is a built in, tiny flash. Hot shoe for accessory flash. The Sony A6100 also is a videocam, with 3840 x 2160 highest resolution, and saving your files as either MPEG-4, XAVC S or H.264 formats. T So you can produce 4K (Ultra-HD) video, currently the highest resolution that is available. There is a built-in microphone and mono speaker with a port for a (better) external microphone.Older DSLR’s have limited connectivity to Wi-Fi or none–newer ones have Wi-Fi capability such as the Canon T7i. This mirrorless camera has built-in wireless with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and various ways to connect to your phone. I tried the NFC method but it didn’t work for me (enable NFC on your phone, activate the app, turn on the camera and touch it to the phone. This works phone to phone for me but didn’t work with the Sony.) However I got a connection via scanning the QR code. You can also enter a Wi-Fi password using the navigation button to scroll through characters (very clumsy.)Even if you are not using your phone as the view screen, you can use the phone as a remote control to change camera settings, set the timer, release the shutter, view LCD screen and tranfer files. This is more useful, I think, when using the video. The app is “Imaging Edge Mobile” It’s clunky to transfer files, it doesn’t maintain connection, you need to connect to transfer files and the NFC function is flaky. I’m not the only one who has had issues with it. It is the weakest link by far in this camera. In fact, I hate this app.The images are great, the format (small and compact) is extraordinarily useful. You can change lenses. This can fit out the most compact kit imaginable for filming –frankly, your accessories (tripod, mic, flash) would be what would take up space. But the app is sub-par. And that’s being kind. I’m taking a point off for the app. Go get some competent software designers. Com’on. Sony. Really! There is an HDMI port, too.The camera comes with a battery charging AC adapter and USB cable, and one battery. The life is about 400 shots, so an additional battery to keep charged, and a third-party charger could be useful. Didn’t come with this kit but I’d recommend you purchase one right away. You can buy additional lenses, and filters; takes 40.5mm size. NOTE: THE LENS CAP. It’s TEENY-TINY. Get one of those stick-on cap leashes that connect the leash to your camera strap (a narrow strap comes with the kit.) Otherwise you will lose this cap outside in the brush in about ten minutes. Or less if you are “butterfingers.”Summary: bright, sharp, mirrorless, entry level mirrorless digial camera with great connectivity. Mediocre app (sigh.) A good alternate choice especially if you can find a bundle deal with more lenses.Basic Specs:4MP – APS-C CMOS SensorISO 100 – 320003 Tilting Screen1440k dot Electronic viewfinder11.0 fps continuous shooting4K – 3840 x 2160 video resolution120 High-Speed VideoBuilt-in Wireless396g. 120 x 67 x 59 mm

I love taking pictures and I love making the BEST financial decisions possible. Getting into high quality photography has a very steep slop financially so I’ve spent A LOT of time weighing quality vs spend between the entire Sony lineup. The A6100 is the best ratio of quality to dollar spend across all brands in my opinion. Is there better out there, of course. But the percentage of dollar spend drastically starts to increase vs the percentage of quality beyond the A6100 and it starts spread A LOT once you move into full frame sensors in every way. The a6100 and the features it offers get you in the top 20% of all cameras and really, depending on opinion, in the top 10% of all cameras. That said, do you want to spend 300% more or 600% more than the a6100 to get that extra 10% to 20% in quality? From a true professionals perspective, it’s worth it to spend that large amount of money for incremental improvements. For someone like me who just likes taking photos, the a6100 is the sweet spot of quality, bang for the buck, and ability to be future proof for some time.

Comment:

This is a great camera for the price, there are other brands or even newer models of the Alpha series cameras but the 6100 delivers the goods, This bundle came with a 55-210mm lens for when you are not so close to the action, 4k resolution which again, for the price and compared to other newer models, it does the job! Pretty happy so far.

Comment:

Bought this for as a gift for my wife who wanted to move beyond iPhone photography and get great action shots of our kids, dog, and life in general. The kit lenses are ok, nothing to be amazed at…and once she gets better I am sure she will be putting on new glass.

Pro: Light weight, easy to use, takes great images.
Con: Smartphone app/connection not reliable

I absolutely love this camera. It’s just a great all around camera to use. Of course not the fanciest but really gets the job done. And I love the app that comes with it and the built in wifi. Makes it super easy to transfer photos off my camera immediately to my phone + you can control the camera from the app on the phone so it makes it easy to take solo pics!

This camera is great, compact, elegant, lightweight, powerful, and multi-functional. This camera has many functions with an LCD touchscreen, and can even record videos/clips, however it is the best in taking pictures. Overall this is a great camera.
